When the COVID-19 pandemic prevented in-person appointments, telehealth kept patients connected to needed mental health care. What was meant to be temporary is now here to stay.  

Patients value telehealth for its convenience. It has also grown into a powerful tool that can increase access to care and provide patients with diverse options.  

Benefits of telehealth include: 

  • Convenience – Patients can save a lot of time, money, and hassle by eliminating the need to commute to and from appointments.  
  • Comfort – Patients can receive care in a space where they feel more at ease, such as their home. This is especially important for patients who struggle with conditions that make it hard to leave the house. With online options, patients are more likely to attend appointments. 
  • Privacy – Many people feel the stigma and shame around the topic of mental health. As a result, they may avoid getting care. Telehealth offers complete privacy to those who would rather not explain where they are going. As a result, they can be more relaxed during their appointment. 
  • Access – You can connect with clinicians across the state and reduce wait times to receive care. This is particularly important to people who live in rural or remote areas that may experience a shortage of clinicians. With telehealth, patients are more likely to attend appointments. 
  • Diversity – Telehealth provides patients more options in finding the right clinician. This is helpful for patients who are minorities, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, or anyone needing specialized care.
