Interventional Psychiatry

Interventional Psychiatry

Therapy and medication not giving relief?
We can offer you meaningful change.

According to MindPath Care Centers’ neuropsychiatric expert Dr. Sandeep Vaishnavi, interventional psychiatry is the third leg of mental health, working alongside psychotherapy and medication. Your brain is a malleable network of circuits and chemicals and interventional psychiatry works by targeting the dysfunctional circuitry that could be causing mental health issues to create new, healthy connections. When used along side traditional mental health treatments, interventional psychiatry can enhance your overall care.

Along with access to interventional psychiatric treatments, MindPath can assure that you will have access to a team of providers with all the tools needed to give you relief. We will work with you from screening through treatment to ensure that interventional psychiatry is the right fit for your needs.

Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD)

Interventional psychiatry is often used for treatment-resistant depression (TRD), meaning a patient hasn’t found relief or a meaningful change to their quality of life after using other standard treatments. According to a study on cases of depression, nearly one out of every three depression patients experience TRD.

Currently, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy and SPRAVATO® are the two most prominent interventional psychiatry treatments available at MindPath Care Centers for TRD.

TMS therapy is a non-medication therapy cleared by the FDA to help treat depression in patients who have not found relief with standard treatments. This non-invasive outpatient therapy has helped thousands of people with depression.

What happens after a phone screening?

If interventional psychiatry has been deemed appropriate for your needs, the next step is to schedule an evaluation with an interventional psychiatry provider, which lasts around an hour. This will help us determine whether treatments, like SPRAVATO® and TMS therapy, may help you.

During the evaluation, a provider will:

  • Go over your medical history
  • Explain the types of treatment options
  • Risks and benefits
  • Answer any questions the patient has
  • Decide which treatment option would be appropriate

MindPath will work with you to apply for insurance coverage for your treatment. Throughout your interventional psychiatry care, you will continue seeing your regular mental health providers, as it is important that standard care is maintained.
