About H. Yamel Medina, LCSWYamel Medina, MSW, LCSW is a mindfulness based Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and advocate for mental health and education. Yamel has a diverse clinical background that began in 2006 with certifications and experience as a psychotherapist in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT), Enrich Prepare Couples Therapy, DBT, STAIRS parenting, EMD EMDR, and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Before moving to CA, Yamel managed a successful trauma focused bilingual private practice and was a community leader with Latino organizations in Kansas City, MO. She has a passion for serving adults, children, and families who are Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC). As a proud Veteran of the Marine Corps (1989 1995), Yamel was an outpatient PTSD psychotherapist for veterans, spouses, and families at the Department of VA Palo Alto for over 10 years. Yamel is a life long learner and creates an environment wherein through learning, clients can learn to feel more connected to themselves, others, and the world around them. Therapy is a process of self reflection and conversations that honor the struggles of life. Yamel provides all the elements of good therapy: honest communication, vulnerability, and trust. She provides both structure and empathy for your unique experience. Yamel enjoys hiking and RV travel with her family and dogs, live music, 5K runs and volunteering for youth sports as a T ball coach.
