About John "Preston" Cole, LCSW

Preston believes that the process of therapy works best when a patient is motivated for change and can engage in honest self-reflection. He has learned over the past seven years as a lead therapist that one of the most important factors that predict success in therapy is the alignment and therapeutic rapport between the therapist and the patient. Preston may give direction and advice if solicited, but he believes the patient possesses the internal strength and direction to improve life satisfaction and mental well-being. He is from Kings Mountain, NC, and found early experience in public service with volunteering at the Special Olympics and completing a service project for the Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts. Preston uses a Strengths-Based approach which seeks to amplify the strengths and areas of resilience within the patient to tackle other challenges they are facing, as well as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Crisis De-Escalation, and Motivational Interviewing.

I never had a therapist lined out what going to on before trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. I made I feel comfortable in the first time meeting him. I m very grateful that will help me find a good therapist to be with. Words can t describe how I feel. Thank you

Dr. Preston made me feel very comfortable about discussing my feelings and insecurities about my family and myself. Dr. Preston makes me and my wife feel as though we can talk about anything. We have many insecurities and often feel threatened to speak about certain subjects with most therapists, bo not with Dr. Preston. Thank you so much.

Preston is very in tuned to what I need help with, he knows how to approach the specific treatment models that will benefit me and he actually listens and shows me that he cares. So far in my treatment with Preston he has presented himself as a kind, caring, judgment free clinician that s genuinely interested in helping me heal from traumas I don t understand and don t know how to get through. And he s rolled up his sleeves and has started navigating me through some troubled waters.

Preston s approach to providing and wanting to provide trauma-focused treatment support comes off as genuine and that he actually cares. After only a couple of sessions, Preston still seems to be the right fit for me, in helping me work through my complex trauma and experiences I need help with.
