Dr. LaVarnway believes that healing begins with feeling heard, understood, and respected. His approach to care is thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based medicine, while always remaining attentive to the unique experiences and goals of each individual that he treats. He integrates psychopharmacology with supportive and skills-based psychotherapeutic approaches including cognitive-behavioral strategies and motivational interviewing. His guiding philosophy is that meaningful progress occurs when treatment is built on trust, transparency, and partnership.
Dr. LaVarnway was drawn to mental health work by a deep curiosity about the human mind and a desire to help people find relief during some of their most vulnerable moments. When not at work, he enjoys being outside and doesn’t miss the New England Nor’easter storms. He also enjoys time with his family and dog.
